Google rolled out a big update to its Translate app today: real-time spoken translation that plays straight into your headphones.
The new feature is called Live Translate. It works on any Android phone and any pair of headphones, wired or Bluetooth, cheap or expensive.
How to use it:
- Open Google Translate
- Tap the “Live Translate” button
- Choose the language you want to hear
- Put on your headphones
- Hold the phone toward the person speaking
Their words are translated and spoken to you in your language almost instantly. The voice keeps the original speaker’s tone and speed so it feels natural.
Words also appear on the screen as a backup.
It supports more than 70 languages at launch, including Spanish, French, Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, and many others.
The update is free and starts rolling out today in the United States, Mexico, and India. More countries will get it in the coming months. iPhone users will have to wait until early 2026.
Google says the feature is great for travel, classrooms, business meetings, or just everyday chats with people who speak different languages.
Simple as that, one app and your regular headphones now break down language walls in real time.
