Google has rolled out a new update for its Chrome web browser that introduces AI-generated store reviews, to help U.S. shoppers make smarter purchases online.
This Feature is now available to desktop users in English, and allows getting an overview of the store’s reputation.
It will quickly display a summary of the organization, taking into account important details, such as the quality of the product line, its price vices, customer service both during and after the purchase, return policy, and overall shopping experience.
Users can access the feature by clicking on a small icon located right to the left of the website address. After pressing it, a pop-up will appear with the store’s reputation summary.
This sum is generated using customer reviews collected from Google’s trusted partners, including Trustpilot, Bazaarvoice, Reputation.com, Reseller Ratings, Scam Adviser, and others.
As of now, the function is only available to U.S. users, and Google has not provided any information concerning when it might roll out on mobile or for other languages.
Although Google claims the main goal of this update is to make online shopping safer and more appealing, it is also clear that its primary drive is to try to keep up with Amazon and other competitors that use AI abilities to analyze product reviews, recommend items, compare the items, and even help users find clothes to fit.
The update also illustrates the current battle between AI-powered browsers, such as the recently released Comet by Perplexity and The Browser Company’s Arc, an already published Opera Neon, and the potential newcomer by OpenAI.
In this context, Google has been additionally integrating the search engine with AI features by introducing an AI agent able to take browsers and other such supportive mechanisms, as well as to enable its Gemini AI assistant for users that have subscribed to the feature.
The AI reviews summarize is only a new part of a series of steps Google has been talking to provide users with a more advanced shopping experience.
Thus far, it has already provided virtual-testing clothes and makeup tools, price history and preference comparison means, and its “AI Mode,” enabling AI technology to help users find outfit and room ideas and even helping out the checkout process.
While the reviews are still limited and new, they are a great step on behalf of Google to using AI technologies to make everyday purchases safer and more comfortable for users.
